My work is leveraging recent advances in digital fabrication and computational optimization to design mass timber buildings and engineered wood products to new levels of carbon efficiency
Mass timber buildings can only be a climate mitigation solution if they are displacing the use of other carbon-intensive structural materials at scale. In the current technological state, mass timber buildings tend to be more expensive, and thus harder to implement.
My research explores new design-driven technological solutions to reduce the cost of mass timber structures and expand the possible design spaces.
